The staff here are very friendly and helpful. I left my bag on a bus and went to check the lost and found located here. All my stuff was intact and they were able to locate it right away. I talked to them for a while just giving feedback about drivers and such and they were very eager to please. It was a refreshingly positive experience.
DTA does not support cyclists of Duluth with their access. The racks on the front of their busses are very restrictive. My tires were thin enough to fit, but their tray was too short for my wheelbase. The driver was not able to accommodate in any way, and surely based on policy. Very disappointing to have my plans for the day dashed by poor access and choices made by DTA.
Buses always late.bus drivers ride past people and are very condisending when they talk toyou.dta needs a whole lotta improvment!
(Scroll down for TL;DR) Where I live, the hours are probably the best in the city (not to brag). West Duluth buses on weekdays go from 4 A.M. - 1 A.M. I heard that's the longest in the entire state for public transportation. But then there are weekends where the hours drastically shrink no matter which neighborhood, and it's rather bad. Other neighborhoods have it worse compared to West Duluth and Gary-New Duluth, though. Not only that, but there aren't enough buses on the clock. Also, their not completely service friendly. The drivers don't sounds as nice as the Twin Cities Metro Transit would. I asked route 5 driver how it would take for route 2 (behind her) to arrive, and most would say "2-5 minutes". This one just said "Soon... You just have to look [down Grand Ave.]" Way to be specific. ...Not. The service desk workers at the transit center don't know how to talk into the microphone through that stupid window. There not directly in front of the mic, so the sounds goes on and off on its own, and you CAN'T UNDERSTAND THEM! Lastly is the service line at the headquarters. Comparing to the other two, this is worse. It was 9:40-ish on 4th St. and 4th Ave. West, and the bus was late (usually) and I was time for 9:35 (scheduled time). I called and asked when it will come, and they said 10:35. I had to remind them of the 9:35 bus (I was nice about it), THEN they tell me how long it would take, and hung up. The DTA is reliable-ish for me, but the service feels like a joke.
Buses always late. Today, I was supposed to take the 8:36 bus (Bus Line 10) to Miller Hill Mall so I could catch the 8:49 bus (Bus Line 8) to Lake Superior College, but Bus 10 arrives almost 10 minutes late and I ended up missing Bus 8 to the college. Very unprofessional.
TL;DR: West Duluth and Gary-New Duluth has the best hours in the city, but everywhere else has it bad. Not enough buses on the clock. The drivers, desk, and the service line don't have the best service.
